HISTORY

IK Södra is one of the oldest judo clubs in Sweden. It was founded 1963, and has ever since grown to become one of the largest and most successful clubs.
The most victorious events in IK Södra’s history so far is the World Championship 1986 in Maastrich, where Elisabeth Karlsson took a silver medal, and in the European Judo Grand Prix 2002, where Sanna Askelöf won a gold medal in – 52 kg. Furthermore the club has achieved two silver and three bronze medals in European Grand Prix competitions.

The youngsters and junior players have always belonged to the best in their categories. The past years the club has dominated the Swedish Championships.

IK Södras Club Coach is one of Sweden’s most respected and highranked women: Ann Löf, 5 dan.

Every year the club organize competitions and camps. From small internal club arrangements to bigger international competitions. Since the middle of the 70’s we have had a mutual exchange with Chitari Judo Club in Holland. Two times a year, we make use of Chitari’s hospitality and goes there for practice and competition. In may they visit us at IK Södra, which is considered as a highlight of the year.

IK Södra has a large handicap section where various kinds of disability are represented. Everybody is training due to his or her own condition and ability. There is a great deal of anxiousness to learn as well as joy during the trainings. The club is very proud of this section.
1992 IK Södra arranged the first Swedish Championship for Disabled. It was a success and the competing has continued both at home as well as abroad.
Training camps from one day up to a week is also an essential ingredient in the disabler's development.
Lars Hintze represents the first disabled with black belt in the country.

Except Judo, IK Södra accommodate other sections such as Kendo and Aerobics.

The judo practicing is being held at Farsta, Skarpnäck and Torvalla south of Stockholm. Djupån is our own training campus where we have several training camps during the year. Here the summer training is located as well.
